Ode to a wonderful man....Gordon Culhane

This week we said goodbye to Grandpa Culhane...although the sun was shining down from the heavens, my heart was heavy with a feeling of loss mixed with nostalgia.

Realizing that Grandpa Culhane's passing marks the first of our grandparents to leave the physical realm is difficult to swallow. Grandparents to me signify a close connection to years gone by and stories that are the fabric of our existence.

My selfish side will miss his laughter and humor at family gatherings, I will also miss seeing his silk socks on a hot summer day....the twinkle in his eye when he held our children on his lap or pulled a dollar bill our of his pocket and quietly slipped it into their hands. The whisper in my ear when we'd part, "be a good girl and a good mom to those little ones...." still rings in my ear.

I'm so sorry to hear about Mike's grandpa. It's never easy to lose someone you love - no matter their age. It sounds like you'll have lots of great memories.

The resemblance is amazing...

Heather,
You have done an amazing job with your blog. You have touched our hearts with your comments about "Grandpa" and the pics. I can hear him saying to you "be a good girl and a good mom to your little ones." I miss him alot. I find comfort in the great memories and alot of them bring a smile to my face. He recently told me how much he loved all of us and he told me to take good care of my beautiful family.
I love you,
Susan/Mom2
